The Perfect Post-Workout Smoothie Additive

Hemp seeds have been around for ages, and yet still, a huge part of the American population has no clue as to the numerous benefits and various recipe options that these little hulled wonders possess.  For instance, hemp seeds are approximately 33% protein, and the protein in hemp is considered to be very similar to a “complete”protein.  This means that hemp seeds provide all 21 amino acids, as well as the 9 essential amino acids the human body requires to function properly.  Additionally, hemp seeds contain GLA (gamma-linoleic acid), which is a rare form of omega-6 fatty acid which is not found in most food sources.  Do your body some good, and make sure you’re fueling it with the proper nutritional building blocks it so very much needs.

Aside from all the nutritional and health benefits these little wondrous seeds provide, one of the reasons I believe that hemp seeds are so amazing is the amount of plant-based protein and fiber they provide per serving.  A single serving of hemp seeds can be a genius addition to that post-workout smoothie you prepare after that workout that just totally kicked your butt.  Try the following recipe: 6 ice cubes, 1 ripe banana, 1 cup of 1% milk (or any milk alternative), 1-2 Tbsp of natural almond butter, 3 Tbsp of hulled hemp seeds & a sprinkling of cinnamon.  Place all ingredients into a blender in the order listed and blend until smooth and thick.  Enjoy!
