Take Precautions

           Over the course of the last two months I have run into three different accounts of rhabdomyolysis.  Two instances were cross fit junkies, and the other in a yoga instructor. Rhabdomyolysis is a condition in which you damage your muscle tissue and the byproducts of this damage release into your bloodstream. Symptoms of rhabdomyolysis include muscle pain, muscle swelling, muscle weakness vomiting, dark colored urine and confusion. The severity of symptoms depends on the amount of byproduct that is able to make it into the bloodstream and its ability to then reach the kidneys.  Once it reaches the kidneys it becomes more serious. Rhabdomyolysis can be caused from trauma, extreme physical exercise and severe dehydration. Most instances go back to severe dehydration, which is also the cure, rehydration. So be careful, listen to your body, and drink lots of water especially now that summer is here.
